The Chiefs, principal elders and Kingmakers of Jamestown have issued a strong call demanding that self-styled commentator Nii Tettey TV produce his journalism certificates and any documentation that qualifies him to speak authoritatively on chieftaincy matters within the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area.
According to the members of the Ngleshie Alata Dzaase Council, Nii Tettey TV has, in recent months, led what they describe as a destructive campaign aimed at discrediting respected personalities and destabilizing the traditional leadership structure. His online videos and social media commentaries, they note, are frequently filled with unverified claims, half-truths, and misleading narratives that have created unnecessary tension in Jamestown.
Elders insist that issues of tradition, lineage, and chieftaincy are delicate matters that require deep knowledge, respect for due process, and professional responsibility. They argue that anyone presenting themselves as a journalist or analyst must be able to prove their training, ethical grounding, and adherence to journalistic standards.
The chiefs emphasized that the call for documentation is not an attack on free speech, but a demand for accountability:
“If he calls himself a journalist, then he must provide the certificates that show he was trained as one. You cannot hide behind a camera and tear down the reputation of hardworking people without responsibility.”
After being shown one of Nii Tettey’s latest defamatory videos, madam Audrey Quaye, a Jamestown principal elder and opinion leader commented, “Thank you for bringing this video to my attention. He has been doing the same with the Ga Stool. So far he has gotten away with it because he is located in the US and thinks he cannot be sued. He has been conducting what is tantamount to depositions online regarding Chieftancy issues that have been filed in court or with the Judicial council of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. The online depositions on YouTube are a blatant violation of Ghana’s Chieftancy Act which gives such powers to the traditional councils, Regional House of Chiefs, National House of Chiefs, and Ghana’s Supreme Court! Once a case has been filed in court, he does not have any right whatsoever to invite parties in the court case to appear on his online YouTube channel to engage in discussions that are tantamount to depositions. He is not a journalist or a lawyer. He has an agenda which is to have Adama Latse II reinstated as the Ga Mantse. He has declared the Ga Mantsemei of the various divisions of the Ga state as dishonest people who must be removed.
He does not conduct his own investigative research. He engages in interrogations that are tantamount to depositions, insults Mantsemei and people he detests, and brings on opposing people to refute prior interviews which breeds enmity and mistrust! His YouTube channel needs to be shut down”, she stated. “He should be sued and prosecuted for blatantly violating Ghana’s Chieftancy Act!”
Several chiefs also noted that Nii Tettey TV’s commentaries have fueled division, misled the youth, and created confusion among community members who rely on trusted sources for information on traditional affairs.
They further urged regulatory bodies responsible for media conduct to scrutinize the activities of untrained online broadcasters, warning that misinformation in traditional communities can have serious consequences. The traditional authorities warned “Do not assume that being in the US exempts you from a summons pertaining to sanctions here in Ghana. We are ready to travel the full path of the law to demonstrate that Nii Tettey TV has violated certain human rights, has committed defamation, has incited the public to violence, and is in violation of the Chieftancy act
The chiefs reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, transparency, and cultural dignity in Jamestown. They encouraged community members to rely on verified information and to be cautious of individuals who use social media platforms to push personal agendas under the guise of journalism.
As the demands intensify, the chiefs are demanding an official response from Nii Tettey TV, along with the necessary certificates that proves he is qualified to speak on sensitive chieftaincy matters, while he awaits inevitable prosecution.
